Ways to Give

A gift through the Catholic Foundation for Eastern South Dakota occurs when a donor transfers ownership of something with monetary value either now or at the time of death.  A donor may direct the benefits of a gift to one or more beneficiaries:
for example, a parish, school, program, cause or group.

The Catholic Foundation offers as extensive array of methods of giving to meet its donor's charitable and financial needs.  Below is a list of the most commonly used giving options:

  • Outright gifts of cash, securities and real estate are welcomed by the Catholic Foundation.
    Donors who make gifts during their lifetime enjoy the benefit of
    witnessing the immediate impact of their generosity for the causes they care about.
     

  • Charitable Gift Annuitiesand Charitable Remainder Trusts provide donors or
    beneficiaries payments for life with substantial tax benefits. A charitable
    remainder is left for the Church at the completion of the trust or the gift contract.

  • Family Legacy Funds or Donor Advised Funds Donors and their families can establish a fund that the Catholic Foundation carefully manages and stewards. The donors and their designated successors remain closely involved through their advisory role of recommending grant distributions from their fund to their favorite charities. These funds provide for a simple, flexible, convenient and cost-saving alternative to private foundations, in addition to passing on and engaging heirs with responsible stewardship, citizenship and values you care about.

  • Giving in the Future, Many gifts to the Catholic Foundation are made through wills and trusts. Bequests may be in cash or property. Provisions for gifts to the Catholic Foundation from an estate may be for a percentage or the remainder specified amount a percentage or the remainder of assets – after all other bequests and obligations have been satisfied – or for a specified amount. Bequests to the Catholic Foundation are not subject to estate taxes.

  • Life Insurancegifts to the Catholic Foundation can be made by naming the Catholic Foundation as owner and beneficiary. Premium payments for the policy qualify as charitable contributions for income tax purposes. Insurance policies that have outlived their original intention or are no longer required can be transferred to the Catholic Foundation, and the cash value will be used as the donor designates.

  •  Wise Giving
