Fishing for a Few Good Men
“Come follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”- Matthew 4:19
The 17th Annual “Bishop’s Charity Fishing Tournaments” are scheduled for Monday, June 3rd at Big Stone City Lakeside Park, Big Stone Lake and Monday June 10th, at West Whitlock Resort on Lake Oahe near Gettysburg. Proceeds from the tournaments will go towards the formation and education of our diocesan seminarians.
For the non-fishing crowd, there is an outdoor mass with Bishop Swain and a banquet celebrating the day. All proceeds from the fishing tournaments go to support seminarian education. In addition to raising needed funds for seminarian education, the fishing tournaments keep the importance of vocations in front of everyone, encouraging additional vocations.
For more information contact the Catholic Foundation at 605-988-3765, toll free at 1-888-246-3386 or on-line at mpavlow@sfcatholic.org.
-
The Bishop’s Charity Fishing Tournament raised approximately $95,000 for seminarian education in 2012, which funds the educational expense of two diocesan seminarians for the year.
-
Through registrations of fishermen, banquet tickets, auction purchases, and raffle ticket sales individuals are helping to support the future of our diocese.
-
There is also a family rate for up to four people. This family rate is available to your parish if there is someone or some group, like the Knights of Columbus or Parish Council, that would like to sponsor an adult willing to accompany three kids from your parish.
-
Each tournament also organizes an auction following the banquet, so even if you don’t fish, please come and enjoy Mass and dinner and support this worthwhile cause through the auction.
-
Banquet only tickets are available
Beneficiary:Seminarian Education - There is a rich tradition of strong vocation efforts in this diocese and we are working hard to continue that tradition. We currently have 22 men enrolled in the seminary for this diocese and look forward to ordaining three to the priesthood, five to the transitional diaconate. While the education and formation necessary to become a priest is challenging, lengthy and expensive, we have strong interest coming from new candidates and have every reason to believe we will continue to have between 25 and 30 men in seminary next fall.
